Historical Genealogy Record Search — Census, Marriage, Death & More

Price range: $19.00 through $69.00

Need one particular piece of your family history rather than a full genealogy project?
I will conduct a focused search for one defined historical record or small group of related records and provide the record or available copy/link when located, source information, a findings summary, and practical next steps.
You are purchasing a defined research search—not a guaranteed discovery.

Description

Looking for One Particular Family Record?

Sometimes you do not need an entire family tree researched. You simply need to find the record that answers one question.

Perhaps you are looking for:

  • a census record
  • birth or baptism information
  • a marriage record
  • a death record
  • an obituary or death notice
  • a city-directory entry
  • a cemetery or burial record
  • an immigration or naturalization record
  • a military record
  • a probate record
  • a church record
  • a land or property record
  • another clearly defined historical genealogy record

I will conduct a focused search for the requested record using relevant available historical databases, indexes, digital archives, catalogs, newspapers, government resources, and other appropriate sources.

When a record is located, I will provide the record or available copy/link where legally and practically possible, identify its source, and explain the information it contains.

If the record cannot be located within the purchased research scope, you will still receive a documented summary of what was searched, what was found, and the most useful next steps.

This service purchases a defined search—not a guaranteed discovery.

What You Will Receive

The exact deliverable depends on the outcome of the search, but normally includes:

Requested Record or Records

Copies, images, excerpts, transcriptions, or links when available and legally permitted.

Source Information

Enough information to identify where the record came from and relocate it when possible.

Findings Summary

A concise explanation of what was located and what the record tells us.

Identity Analysis

When necessary, an explanation of why a record appears to belong—or does not appear to belong—to the person being researched.

Search Summary if No Record Is Found

An unsuccessful search does not result in an empty delivery. I will document the major sources searched and relevant findings.

Recommended Next Steps

If the requested record remains unavailable or inconclusive, I will explain the most promising ways to continue the investigation.

What I Need From You

Please provide as much of the following as you know:

  1. Full name of the person connected with the record, including maiden or alternate names if known.
  2. The specific record or record type you want located.
  3. Approximate date or date range.
  4. City, county, state, or other location if known.
  5. Known spouse, parents, children, or other relatives who may help identify the correct person.
  6. Any existing records, family-tree entries, screenshots, notes, or source information you already possess.
  7. Any spelling variations or conflicting information you know about.
  8. Sources you have already searched unsuccessfully, if any.
  9. The question you hope the requested record will help answer.
  10. Whether the record is needed for a legal, citizenship, inheritance, tribal-enrollment, adoption, or other formal proceeding.

More accurate starting information generally makes a short research block substantially more productive.

What This Service Does Not Include

Historical Record Search is deliberately narrow.

It does not include:

  • researching an entire ancestor’s life
  • building a family tree
  • tracing a family line through generations
  • researching multiple unrelated family members
  • proving a complex parent-child relationship
  • solving a genealogy brick wall requiring extensive research
  • DNA analysis or genetic genealogy
  • unknown biological-parent identification
  • adoption investigations
  • legal heirship conclusions
  • citizenship-by-descent application preparation
  • lineage-society certification
  • tribal-membership or enrollment determinations
  • background investigations involving living people
  • extensive international archival research
  • professional translation requiring language expertise
  • physical courthouse, archive, cemetery, or repository visits
  • certified copies ordered from government agencies
  • third-party researcher fees
  • archive or repository charges
  • guaranteed discovery of a requested record

If your question requires broader research rather than locating particular records, Single Ancestor Genealogy Research will usually be the better service.

What Happens if the Record Does Not Exist Online?

Not every historical record survives, has been digitized, is publicly accessible, or is correctly indexed.

A record may:

  • have been destroyed
  • never have been created
  • remain undigitized
  • be restricted by privacy law or repository policy
  • be incorrectly indexed
  • exist under an unexpected spelling
  • be held only by a courthouse, archive, church, historical society, or other repository

The purchase covers the defined research search—not a guarantee that the requested record will be located.

When the record cannot be found within the purchased scope, I will explain what was searched and identify the strongest next research options.

Outside Fees and Record Orders

The package price covers my research and delivery.

Paid certified copies, government record fees, archive charges, newspaper/database fees required specifically for the project, repository fees, third-party researcher expenses, and similar outside costs are not included.

No outside expense will be incurred without your approval.

What Happens After You Order

  1. I will contact you by email. I will ask you to confirm the person or family involved, the record or records being sought, known names and variations, approximate dates and locations, and any searches or records you already have.
  2. You provide the starting information. Supplying what is already known helps avoid unnecessary duplicate searching and gives the research the strongest starting point.
  3. I conduct the defined record search. Research is performed within the scope of the package purchased using the sources and search strategies appropriate to the request.
  4. You receive the results electronically. When located, the relevant record or available copy/link is provided with source information and findings. If the requested record cannot be located within scope, I document the search, findings, limitations, and useful next steps.

Your purchase covers the defined research effort and documentation, not a guaranteed discovery.

Revisions

One clarification/revision is included.

A revision covers correction, clarification, organization, or reasonable adjustment to the delivered findings based on the original search request.

It does not include a new record search, new person, new research question, or additional research time.

Research Focus

My strongest genealogy experience is with United States family-history research, with particular familiarity with western Pennsylvania families, communities, and historical records.
